Man Runs Half Marathon Despite Stage Four Cancer Diagnosis

Callan Rogers, 28, from Stratford, London, completed a half marathon in Brentwood, Essex, while battling stage four testicular cancer. Diagnosed in September 2022, the cancer had spread to 14 areas including his lungs. Despite undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy and surgery, he entered remission in June 2023 but experienced a relapse in December 2023.

Rogers, a fire safety officer and former mixed martial arts (MMA) trainee, completed the marathon in 2 hours and 29 minutes without extensive training, citing his natural running ability. He decided to undertake the challenge when his fifth round of chemotherapy was unsuccessful.

Facing severe treatment side effects, including weight loss from 84kg to 54kg and partial blindness, Rogers is now preparing for his sixth round of chemotherapy. This involves participating in a human trial for the experimental drug BNT-142, designed to target solid tumors expressing the protein Claudin-6.

Callan expressed optimism about the trial, highlighting the staff's excitement about the treatment. His unwavering disciplinary mindset from MMA training has been a significant motivational factor during his ongoing battle with cancer.
