A light aircraft crash-landed at Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park, situated near Bembridge on the Isle of Wight, around 2.20pm on Saturday, creating a dramatic scene that was captured on video by a family in the area. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the plane clip a rooftop before it descended quickly towards the ground.

Maxine Cox, a 41-year-old grandmother from Southampton, detailed the moments leading up to the crash as she walked back to her caravan from the beach with her family. She recounted hearing a loud pop and observing the aircraft making a sharp turn before it lost altitude rapidly. “It was terrifying. Someone was watching over our boys that day,” she said, reflecting on the close call her family experienced.

Cox's daughter, Kayleigh Foreman, 25, reacted swiftly by filming the incident and shouting to her younger brother, aged 14, and her four-year-old son to move to safety. Following the crash, she promptly dialled 999 for assistance. Maxine elaborated, "If it had gone ten metres more our boys wouldn't be here - it's crazy! We were on the wrong side to see the pilot get out. I'm so glad they weren't seriously hurt."

Both individuals on board the aircraft, which has not been named, managed to escape the crash with only minor injuries. A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary confirmed that officers, along with colleagues from fire and ambulance services, were dispatched to the scene. Initial reports indicated that one person sustained minor injuries, but details regarding the pilot or the passenger remain unverified.

The incident elicited a strong response from emergency services and has since left a significant impression on the witnesses present at the holiday park. The precise cause of the crash is yet to be determined, and investigations are likely to continue in the coming days.
