Tesco has introduced a new range of Marmite-infused potato products, sparking considerable excitement among fans of the iconic yeast spread. The new selection, featuring four chilled potato-based dishes, was recently spotted on supermarket shelves, prompting enthusiastic reactions on social media.

The range includes Marmite-coated roast potatoes, potato wedges, a creamy mash, and a cheese potato gratin made with sliced potatoes, sharp cheddar, crunchy breadcrumbs, and Marmite. Each product is priced at £3.50 and is available both in-store and online at Tesco.

The launch has been met with positive feedback from Marmite enthusiasts, with one social media user describing the offerings as "unreal" and "banging." Another expressed delight at the variety, stating, "Our world is better. Tesco is killing it." Many fans are familiar with incorporating Marmite into various dishes, having previously collaborated with brands on items like cheese, popcorn, oatcakes, sausages, and butter.

However, the new potato-based line has not been universally praised. Some consumers voiced their scepticism, labelling the taste "disgusting" despite a love for Marmite itself. The products are yet to receive reviews or star ratings on Tesco’s website.

The spread's popularity and versatility have been evident in its diverse applications, including unusual recipes such as Marmite-smeared spaghetti, made famous by celebrity chef Nigella Lawson. Other culinary experiments include Marmite on cheese straws, spuds, and sandwiches. Marmite has also been featured in products like crackers, crisps, and several cheese varieties through previous collaborations.

This launch comes after Unilever, the manufacturer behind Marmite, discontinued its Marmite and peanut butter combination spread, which had been introduced in 2019. Fans of this hybrid product expressed disappointment when it became increasingly difficult to find in supermarkets. Despite the discontinuation, Unilever indicated plans to launch new products within its Marmite licensing range, aiming to bring the distinctive flavour to shoppers in different formats.

A spokesperson for the company commented on the peanut butter spread’s discontinuation and highlighted ongoing efforts to introduce exciting new Marmite-based products. The announcement followed social media complaints about the spread’s absence from supermarket shelves, with some customers confirming its disappearance from major retailers by early September.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Tesco’s new Marmite-infused potato range reflects the enduring popularity of the spread and its ability to inspire innovation in food products, even as other fan-favourite items are phased out.
