Apple Introduces Key Security Features and Updates with iOS 17.5 Release
Apple has launched iOS 17.5, which includes a significant new security feature that helps users detect if someone is tracking them via Bluetooth. Released on Monday, the update also brings enhancements to Apple News+, Apple's Maps, Notes, and the Find My apps.
The new Cross-Platform Tracking Protection notification will alert iPhone users if an unfamiliar Bluetooth tracker is moving with them, irrespective of the tracker's paired operating system. This update is part of a broader security measure akin to previous protections against AirTag misuse.
Apple News+ received additional features, including new word games such as Quartiles, alongside Crossword and Mini Crossword. The app now includes an 'Offline Mode' for users to access news without constant internet connectivity. Additionally, the update introduced 'Pride Radiance' wallpapers to celebrate LGBTQ+ communities.
Other notable security fixes within iOS 17.5 addressed vulnerabilities in the Find My app, Apple Maps, and the Notes app, enhancing overall user privacy and device security.
Simultaneously, Apple updated its other operating systems, including macOS Sonoma 14.5 for desktops and laptops, and tvOS 17.5 for Apple TV.
For users who believe they have encountered security vulnerabilities, Apple has provided guidelines on how to report such issues on its security reporting page.
