In 2014, a young Sarah Silva, donned in a blue charro outfit, captivated audiences with her powerful rendition of "La Bikina" on "La Academia Kids," a Mexican reality singing competition. Her performance won praise from judges, including Lola Cortés, who remarked on her potential.
Now, at 21, Sarah Silva has rebranded herself as Estevie, blending cumbia, música Mexicana, and pop. Estevie has released a seven-track EP, "Cumbialicious," which features collaborations with artists like Eslabon Armado and DannyLux. This EP has garnered critical acclaim and solidified her place in the music scene.
Estevie recently performed at the 2024 South by Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Her schedule was intense, featuring three shows in three days and an opening act for Christian Nodal. Her dynamic performances, including a set at the Moody Amphitheater, earned her the Grulke Prize for Developing U.S. Act, making her the first Latin artist to receive this accolade.
Estevie’s stage presence is commanding, and her music often reflects her Southern California upbringing and Mexican-American identity. She acknowledges the male-dominated nature of regional Mexican music and aims to bring more female representation to the genre. Her latest single, "La manera que me ves," is set to release next week, adding to her growing discography.
Despite her early success, Estevie remains focused on growth and aspires to win a Grammy one day. She attributes much of her drive to her family's support, who have been integral to her journey.
