Anthony Yewman, 45, from Romford, Essex, is currently on trial at Southampton Crown Court for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend, Jenny Dalton. Additional charges include attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH) and intentional strangulation.
Yewman, who modeled himself after the character "The Joker" from Batman, referred to Dalton as his "Harley Quinn." During the trial, the jury was shown a pillow featuring Heath Ledger’s Joker with the slogan “Why so serious?” alongside a blurred photo of Ms. Dalton.
Prosecutor Matthew Farmer outlined that Yewman and Dalton had an on-off relationship that lasted about two years, during which Yewman became increasingly obsessed with Dalton. After their relationship ended, Yewman allegedly stalked Dalton, even camping in her garden in Fordingbridge, Hampshire, until police were called and he was arrested.
Farmer described Yewman's controlling behavior, preventing Dalton from going out alone. The prosecution recounted that on August 30, Yewman allegedly strangled Dalton twice at her home until Dalton's daughter intervened. Ms. Dalton reported losing consciousness during the attack and later witnessing Yewman attempt self-harm with a craft knife.
Yewman claims he acted in self-defense, stating he loved Dalton and never intended to harm her. Yewman, wearing a blue jumper in court, denies all charges. The trial continues.
