Singer Katy Perry shared an edited version of Harrison Butker's controversial commencement speech on June 1, 2024, marking the start of Pride Month. Butker, a Kansas City Chiefs kicker, delivered the original speech at Benedictine College in Kansas, where he critiqued working women, the LGBTQ+ community, abortion, and President Joe Biden.

Perry's edited clip rearranged Butker's words to convey a celebratory message for female graduates and Pride Month. In her caption, Perry wrote, "Fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride."

The edited speech has Butker praising female graduates and highlighting the importance of diversity and inclusion, in stark contrast to his original remarks. This version attracted over 100,000 likes on Instagram in under 24 hours, but comments were disabled.

Separately, Butker's original speech led to a petition for his removal from the Chiefs' roster, which amassed over 228,000 signatures. Despite backlash, Butker defended his views in subsequent public appearances, reiterating that they stem from his religious beliefs.
