Rufus Pomeroy, a Year 8 student at Redland Green School in Bristol, died after an accident on May 28, 2024. The school's headteacher, Ben Houghton, informed parents and pupils of Rufus's death on May 31. Houghton described Rufus as a "lovely and valued member" of the school community and expressed condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

The news was delivered via a letter to parents, in which Houghton requested that students refrain from discussing the tragedy on social media. The school will provide support through the Bristol City Council Educational Psychology and schools' wellbeing teams, including establishing "break-out rooms” for students needing a quiet space.

This incident marks the second loss for the school in less than two years; a Year 13 student passed away in September 2022. The school community is deeply saddened by these events and is focused on supporting the affected students and families.
