US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti Speaks on Cricket and US-India Relations
Washington: US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, has shared his enthusiasm for cricket following the USA's unexpected victory over Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Held on June 6 in Dallas, the USA's win via Super Over has generated hope for cricket's growth in America, a nation traditionally dominated by baseball and basketball.
Highlighting the multicultural fabric of the USA, Garcetti believes that the sport already has a substantial base due to the presence of cricket-loving immigrants from countries like India, South Africa, and the UK. He expressed optimism that cricket could become a major sport in the United States and reflected on the nation's historical engagement with the game.
Garcetti also marked the USA's entry into the Super Eights of the tournament as a landmark development while recognizing the importance of the sport to the Indian community.
