Scottie Scheffler, the world’s number one golfer, was arrested outside Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, on May 17, 2024. Scheffler was attempting to enter the club for the second round of the PGA Championship when he was stopped by police. He was subsequently charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals. Describing the incident as a “big misunderstanding,” Scheffler was released in time for his revised tee-off at 3:08 PM BST. He scored a 67 in the first round, leaving him tied for 12th.
Scheffler, a 27-year-old American from Montvale, New Jersey, moved to Dallas, Texas, in his youth, where he developed his golfing skills. He burst onto the scene by winning junior titles and made his PGA Tour debut as a 17-year-old amateur. Scheffler's career achievements include winning the 2022 Masters and successfully defending titles at the Players Championship and the Masters in 2024. He and his wife Meredith recently welcomed their first child, Bennett.
Despite the arrest, Scheffler continued his pursuit of the major title, with notable performances pushing him close to the leading positions in the PGA Championship.
