Georgieou explained that his wife was behind the counter at the time and noticed the jar missing only after the duo had vanished. Following the incident, he reviewed the CCTV, which confirmed the theft. The West Yorkshire Police received a report of the theft, stating that the incident took place at approximately 2:45 PM. A spokesperson for the police indicated that the investigation was underway. Inspector Paul Fraser from the Wakefield City Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised a zero-tolerance approach to retail crime and noted a significant overall decrease in such incidents in the city, with a 44 per cent reduction compared to the previous year.
