LG Electronics has ceased production of its rollable OLED TVs, an announcement made public on May 16, 2024. The flagship model, LG R1, along with its predecessors, R9 (2019) and RX (2020), have been discontinued after poor sales performance. Introduced at CES 2019, these innovative 65-inch TVs were initially celebrated for their futuristic design and high-concept technology. Each unit was priced at $87,000, which contributed to their limited market success.

According to reports from Korean publication Chosun, LG's decision was driven by the inability to reduce production costs. The rollable OLED panel production plant stopped operations late last year, and LG has since retrieved display models from retailers.

Despite this setback, LG remains committed to experimental OLED designs. The company plans to release the transparent OLED T later this year, which was showcased at CES 2024, and continues to develop its M-series wireless OLED TVs, with the M4 model expected to launch soon.
