Microsoft has announced a significant expansion of its Copilot AI, introducing the official Copilot application to Mac users. Launched on Thursday, the app is now available for download from the Mac App Store in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

The Copilot app is available at no cost for all users with compatible Mac devices, specifically those equipped with an M1 chip or higher. Users with Intel-based Macs will not be able to access this application. According to ZDNet, the functionality offered to users mirrors that of the existing Copilot applications on platforms such as Windows, iOS, iPadOS, and Android.

Once installed, users can interact with Copilot through typing or voice commands. The AI is designed to provide a range of services including generating text and images. The Mac version of the app is equipped to handle various tasks as outlined in the Mac App Store description. These tasks encompass delivering straightforward answers to complex queries based on simple conversations, summarising content quickly, translating and proofreading languages, composing emails and cover letters, as well as creating stories or scripts.

In addition to text generation, Copilot also exhibits image creation capabilities. Users can request the generation of high-quality images, ranging from abstract designs to photorealistic renderings. This includes developing new logos, editing photographs, removing backgrounds, creating illustrations, curating content from social media, devising storyboards for film and video projects, and building or updating portfolios.

Setting up Copilot on a Mac is user-friendly; users can establish a dedicated keyboard shortcut to activate it and opt to have it launch automatically upon signing in. Moreover, the current version of Copilot allows users to engage with the AI without needing to create or log into an account.

Alongside its standard features, Mac users will now have unlimited access to the "Think Deeper" and "Copilot Voice" functionalities. The "Think Deeper" feature provides more thorough analyses of user inquiries, generating comprehensive and detailed responses. Meanwhile, "Copilot Voice" facilitates interactive conversations with the AI, offering a choice of four distinct voice options—Canyon, Meadow, Grove, and Wave—each characterised by different gender, pitch, and accent.

These developments signify Microsoft's continued efforts to enhance user experience for its AI offerings across various platforms.
